Roosevelt Weeks, awarded 2023 College of Information Outstanding Alumni Award at the 15th Anniversary Dinner and Awards Ceremony

Roosevelt Weeks has undertaken a remarkable journey through academia and forged a distinguished career, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the library sciences and his community. His academic odyssey began at Texas Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He continued his pursuit of knowledge and excellence, graduating from COI's Master of Library Science program in 2014, firmly establishing his dedication to the world of libraries and information.

In his professional journey, Roosevelt's contributions to the field of library science are nothing short of remarkable. He began his career with the City of Houston, serving as the Deputy Director of Library Administration and making a lasting impact on library services in the city. Next, he assumed the role of Director of Austin Public Libraries, a position he has held for the past six years. In this capacity, Roosevelt leads a dynamic team and oversees a diverse library system, which includes 20 branch locations, the History Center, and the impressive new Central Library.

Roosevelt Weeks' dedication to the field of library science extends beyond his local impact. He actively engages with prestigious organizations, including the American Library Association (ALA), the Public Library Association (PLA), the Texas Library Association (TLA), and the Urban Library Council (ULC). His commitment to these associations underscores his passion for the profession and his desire to enhance the quality of library services.

Roosevelt's contributions have not gone unnoticed. This year, he also received the title of Librarian of the Year from the Texas Library Association, a testament to his outstanding achievements in the field and his dedication to the betterment of libraries.

Moreover, Roosevelt Weeks generously offers his time and resources to support the College of Information. He plays a pivotal role in the success of the Yvonne J. Chandler Endowed Scholarship and serves as a valuable member of our college's advisory board, contributing to the institution's future.
