Practicum Application Process

  • Students must have completed at least 12 credit hours before they can enroll in practicum.
  • Students should begin the process of looking for a practicum site, at least one semester before they plan to enroll in Practicum (INFO 5090). 
  • Students must have their practicum site determined before the start of the semester that they are planning to complete a practicum, in order to enroll in the practicum class. 

Locating a Practicum Site
  • Students that need assistance locating a practicum site, can using the following methods:
  1. Search for internship positions through Handshake.
  2. Check the Available Practicum Sites list.
  3. UNT Career Center
    College of Information contact:

  4. Contact your program concentration faculty director.

Applying for the Practicum class:
  1. Once a practicum site has been secured, the student will submit the Practicum Application Form.  The form needs to include the name and contact information of the individual that will be directly supervising the student at their practicum location.
  • Practicum site locations go through a vetting process and must be approved by the Information Science department.

  2. Once a practicum application is processed, students receive permission to enroll in the practicum class.


Practicum on an F-1 Visa / Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for students on F-1 Visa:

- For the Information Science department programs, students must have at least two (2) long semesters completed before being eligible to apply for CPT.

- Students do not complete CPT paperwork until after they are enrolled in INFO 5090, their practicum / internship class.
