UNT/DLIS Master’s Degree Program Core Courses

The Master’s degree program prepares information professionals for work in a variety of roles and application settings, including various information agencies and all types of libraries. The program requires that all students complete 36 hours of coursework including nine hours of core courses. A program of courses will be offered for the LEAP Cohort students until the summer 2012 semester. After that semester, students will complete their remaining 18 hours of electives in courses that they will select in consultation with the student advisor. 		Quick Links

Nine hours of core courses are required to be completed by all students in the cohort. These courses are taught in the nine day web institute.

Programs Of Study

Programs of study serve as advising guides for students. Each student will work with a faculty advisor to create an individualized program reflecting the student’s career goals. Graduate Academic Certificates

The University of North Texas offers Graduate Academic Certificate (GAC) programs that enhance existing bachelor’s or graduate degrees in ways that will make the University a life-long center of graduate education.  Information about the GAC programs at UNT is available on the Toulouse Graduate School website at: http://www.tsgs.unt.edu/admissions/certificates.  The Department of Library and Information Sciences offers four concurrent GAC’s with the master’s degree program.  Concurrent programs are defined as programs (degrees, graduate academic certificates or teacher certification) that a student is pursuing simultaneously.  With these programs, the courses required for the GAC are taken while pursuing the master’s degree.  Students receive credit for these classes toward their master’s.  For more information about the GACs offered by the DLIS follow the links below:
